Hi, I’m Justin Ortiz

Currently based in the Bay Area.

I’m a builder, tinker, and explorer.

Former content creator and athletic trainer.

Sports medicine by trade but a techie at heart.

On a journey into a new career in sports science and data analytics.

Journey

I started my profession in athletic training—the fascination of human movement and rehabilitation. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work in amazing settings – Drum Corp International, High Schools, NFL, NCAA D1, and the MLS. I learned a lot from the profession, from how to master a craft to attention to detail and grit. All these lessons are to be applied to other areas of interest.

After 10 years in sports medicine, I’m ready to take a new path. I am particularly interested in sports science, data analytics, and the growth of Artificial Intelligence. I am using this time to focus on developing and learning new skill sets and see what comes from this new unknown.

Philosophy

Throughout my life and career, I have been guided by two simple creeds: efficiency and care.

In my college days, I worked as a service. During training, my instructor challenged me, “How can I accomplish the same amount of tasks in fewer steps?”. This changed my thought process with everything I do. I won’t be perfect at first, but practice and repetition. The process will be refined.

The second is to care.

I take pride in my work. These prideful actions can vary. They can start with attentive interactions with patients or giving them my time and effort whenever someone is in the training room. No task is too small to handle.

Creation

From my philosophy, there is a balance. Like many others, my professional life has taken twists and turns. A career is a chapter in a book, but it does not define me. My external hobbies fill my missing pieces and helped shape my perception of the world.

“Do or do Not, There is no try.” – Yoda
